Alan Titchmarsh found himself apologising to viewers during the latest episode of Love Your Weekend, following a guest's family revelation.
Discussing his twenty-year stint on the hit series Doc Martin, McNeice confessed that he hadn't anticipated the show's success and admitted he never memorised the script for the audition. Despite this, he described the role as a dream job and revealed one of his co-stars was like the child he always wanted.
The programme showed a clip from an early season featuring McNeice, where he appears alongside Martin Clunes's character, offering to fix a sink free of charge. Joe Absolom, who played McNeice's onscreen son, also featured in the scene.
After the clip, McNeice expressed his enjoyment of working on the show with Clunes and Absolom, whom he referred to as the child he always wanted.
When Alan asked if he had any children of his own, McNeice confirmed he had two sons and a daughter, adding that his comments about his co-star 'don't go down well at home'.
The pair then humorously reiterated the statement, leading to Alan turning to the camera to apologise. He directed his apology to McNeice's family watching at home, expressing regret for the comments made, reports .
The actor further discussed his previous role in , where he portrayed Sir Winston Churchill. He even has a group dedicated to his character Bert Large. His stint on the sci-fi hit has taken him to and America for conventions, and he even participated in a Doctor Who cruise.
He also reminisced about his time working with Jim Carrey in the cult comedy Ace Ventura. McNeice described Carrey as a 'lunatic', claiming that he's always switched on, 24 hours a day.
He added that while most actors would retreat to their trailers during filming breaks, perhaps to rest or enjoy a cup of tea while waiting for the next scene setup, Carrey was different.
Instead, McNeice claimed, Carrey would remain on set and 'entertain the troops' by making funny voices or constantly performing gags to keep everyone's spirits high.
Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh continues next Sunday at 9.30am on ITV1 and ITVX
