If you’re bored of the humdrum of UK life, then why not book a day trip to a European destination that’s walkable with some of the best shopping on the continent? If you’re feeling bold, you can fly to Copenhagen and see the best the city has to offer, then be back by dinner time.
Copenhagen is less than two hours from the UK and with the main city a mere 4 kilometres - or a 13 minute journey - from the airport, it’s possible to make a day of it without too much fuss. If you fly from London in the early hours, you can fly back in the evening and have the day trip of a lifetime.
The capital of Denmark is known for it's history and culture, but also for having the longest pedestrianised shopping precinct in Europe. Strøget is home to designer brands such as Prada and Hermes but also offers something for those of us with a smaller budget.
The 1.1 kilometre stretch covers the streets Frederiksberggade, Nygade, Vimmelskaftet, and Østergade and runs from City Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv square.

Off the main drag and down the side streets you can find a multitude of food and drink options from coffee to pints and everything in between - perfect for a break after a long day of retail therapy.
Copenhagen is also very bike friendly, so if you don't fancy walking why not hire a bike and do a cycle tour of some of the capital’s rich historical attractions?
The city is also home to one of the oldest theme parks in the world which is still going strong today. Tivoli Gardens has something to offer young and old with rollercoasters, music, food and more. It's the perfect day trip activity if you prefer to stay in one central location.
With a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor it’s a proven crowd pleaser. One visitor said it was “magical”.
“We visited Tivoli on a Saturday evening in December. The queue moved quickly and upon entry we were greeted by a winter wonderland! The park is decorated beautifully for Christmas and there were many festive stalls selling seasonal drinks and gifts. The surroundings were interesting enough that we didn’t find the need to pay for rides. Had a great time and would wholeheartedly recommend," they said.
If you want to check out Copenhagen, Ryanair has flights on sale for just £38 from London.
