Wake up customers, wake up. The Indian government has taken another important decision to wake up its customers. If you are troubled by the misleading claims made by food products, then this news is for you. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a new digital facility, through which consumers will be able to directly report misleading claims made on food product labels.

Report on FOSCOS
The digital facility launched by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is named FOSCOS. Consumers can now lodge complaints regarding misleading or false claims displayed on packaged food items through the Food Safety Connect mobile application or the Food Safety Compliance System [https://foscos.fssai.gov.in]. Now claims on products should be scientific.
This consumer-centric move is based on FSSAI's regulatory framework under the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018, and Labelling and Display Regulations, 2020, which mandate that all claims made on food products should be true, clear, meaningful, non-misleading and the claim that the food has some nutritional or health-related properties should be scientifically proven. If false claims about a product are confirmed, then strict action is sure to be taken against the producer. In such a situation, now all producers will have to do their marketing responsibly.

This initiative is also in line with the functioning of FSSAI's Advertising and Claims Monitoring Committee (AMC), which monitors the claims made in the labels and advertisements of food products to check regulatory compliance. The Food Safety Connect mobile application is available for download on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. If any producer is seen making misleading claims now, then you can use this application.
