Nitish Kumar Reddy turned heads during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, showing his ability as a seam-bowling all-rounder for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He went on to make his debut in T20Is and Tests as the selectors and the Indian team management were impressed by his all-round skills. Nitish repaid the faith by slamming a stunning century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), and he also bowled eight economical overs.
SRH retained his services for INR 6 crore ahead of the auction. However, in the ongoing IPL 2025, the talented youngster has failed to live up to his expectations. In six innings, he has only aggregated 131 runs at an average of 21.83 and a strike rate of 113.92. However, what has caught the attention of legendary former South African pacer Dale Steyn is that SRH have not used him with the ball at all in IPL 2025.
"Have SRH just forgotten that Reddy can bowl…? Has a bit of a golden arm, absolutely worth an over or two," Steyn wrote on his official 'X' (formerly Twitter) handle.
"If he’s injured then it’s understandable, but he seems to be batting just fine, so…" Steyn wrote in another post.

Reddy has picked up three wickets in his IPL career at an average of 69 and a strike rate of 36.33. The 21-year-old, however, has a better record in T20Is. He has bagged three wickets from four games at an average of 23.67 and a strike rate of 18.
Sunrisers suffered their fifth defeat in seven matches in IPL 2025 when they lost to Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 17.
