That makes me feel I am seriously old: Dhoni opens up about his future plans

MS Dhoni, who played Chennai Super Kings' final league-stage match against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, did not entirely reveal what his future plan is.

There have been several questions and chatter about retirement around the 43-year-old, who led CSK to a win in the final league match.

On being asked if this would be his final competitive match in the post match interview, Dhoni said, "It depends. I have 4-5 months to decide, there's no hurry. Need to keep the body fit. You have to be at your best. If cricketers start retiring for their performance, some of them will retire at 22."

The legendary captain, who led India to three ICC trophies between 2007 and 2013 and retired from international cricket in 2020, said that he has the luxury of time to think and make a decision.

"Will go back to Ranchi, enjoy a few bike rides. I am not saying I am done, not saying I am coming back either. I have the luxury of timing. Will think about it and then decide," said the five-time IPL winning captain.

He also added in a light-hearted manner that he feels old as Andre Sidhharth, who sits next to him in the team bus, is exatly 25 years younger than him.

"Not to forget I have Andre (Siddharth) in my team. I sit on the last seat and he sits next to me. Was just having a chat and I asked him how how are you. He is exactly 25 years younger than me, that makes me feel I am seriously old," Dhoni said.

Reflecting on CSK's disappointing season, Dhoni said, "When we started the season, the first four games were in Chennai, out of the first six games. We decided to bat second because of the dew, but I felt the wicket was good for batting in the first innings. We batted under pressure in the second innings and that confidence got sucked away from the batters and it became slightly difficult. I was worried about the batting department because at the end of the day you have to score runs. Not everybody is contributing. We can put runs on the board, but there are few holes we will like to fill."

He was also enthusiastic about captain Ruturaj Gaikwad coming back after missing most of IPL 2025 due to an injury.

"One of the most important things was when Ruturaj comes back next season, he doesn't need to worry about too many things. He needs to maybe fit in one role from the eleven."

CSK finished last on the points table after winning just four out of 14 matches this season. This was the first time the franchise has ended up with the wooden spoon.
