Mumbai News: Kandivali's Lokhandwala Residents Launch Special Drive To Remove Abandoned Vehicles With Civic, Police Support

Mumbai: Kandivali residents have set a target to clear all the abandoned vehicles from the Lokhandwala Township. In association with the civic body and traffic department, the local residents' association has asked the residents to report details about such abandoned vehicles on the streets.

The residents of Lokhandwala Township in Kandivali (E) have decided to stand up against the vehicles abandoned on the streets from a long time. Lokhandwala Residents' Association (LRA) has started an independent drive asking the residents of the locality to inform the association about the abandoned vehicles around their residence.

The residents' association will work on close collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the traffic department of Mumbai Police to ensure that the reports received from the residents are heard and actions are taken to remove those abandoned vehicles from the streets.

Through a circular, LRA had released guidelines for the residents to report the abandoned vehicles. It asked the residents to click pictures of the abandoned vehicle and the street it was found in. In the first such drive, people were asked to share their complaints regarding abandoned vehicles till Sunday 9pm, which will be shared with The authorities for appropriate action. The first drive received multiple complaints of abandoned scooters, cars and rickshaws on the street.

Shishir Vivekanand Shetty, founder of LRA, said, "Abandoned vehicles are utilising the infrastructure of the locality without being beneficial to the residents. Therefore we aim to get rid of all such abandoned vehicles from the area in multiple similar drives. We want to people to be proactive and participate in these drives to contribute for their own betterment."
