In a remarkable show of defence readiness, India successfully foiled over 600 drone intrusions in a span of just 48 hours after Pakistan attempted coordinated attacks on multiple Indian cities. The aggressive move by Pakistan came after India’s precision strike under Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7.
600 Drones Targeted 30+ Locations, All NeutralizedAccording to defence sources, over 600 drones were intercepted and neutralized across more than 30 locations, including key areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, on the night of May 8. These drones were believed to be part of a larger Pakistani effort to create panic, gather intelligence, or potentially launch attacks on Indian military infrastructure.
Air Raid Sirens, Blackout Ordered in Border Cities“The drone swarm was part of a planned and synchronized attack, but India’s air defence systems acted swiftly and prevented any damage or casualties,” sources said.
In response to the aerial threat, air raid sirens were sounded in several border towns, and a complete blackout was enforced to minimize visibility to enemy drones and missiles. Cities in Jammu, Pathankot, and Barmer observed heightened alert as Pakistan's drones and missiles attempted to breach Indian airspace.
Missiles Also Intercepted; No Damage ReportedApart from drones, Pakistan also fired eight missiles aimed at strategic locations including Samba, RS Pura, Satwari, and Arnia. However, India’s integrated air defence system intercepted all of them successfully.
Background: Operation Sindoor and Pahalgam Terror Attack“No vital installation was hit, and there were zero casualties, thanks to the preparedness and precision of the Indian armed forces,” said a senior military official quoted by PTI.
The Pakistani provocation came just a day after India carried out Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory strike in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed several Indian personnel. On May 7, India targeted nine terror camps in PoK and Pakistan, with surgical precision, while avoiding civilian and military targets, underlining the operation’s focus on counter-terrorism.
Pakistan’s Motive: Spreading Panic and Intelligence Gathering“Pakistan’s response was disproportionate and aimed at escalating tensions, but India maintained strategic restraint while ensuring national security,” an official noted.
Defence analysts believe Pakistan’s use of drone swarms and missile attacks was likely an attempt to instill fear among civilians and conduct surveillance of Indian military locations. However, India’s swift action has not only neutralized the threat but also sent a strong message that any aggression will be met with firm retaliation.
