Paris: In a dramatic turn of events, Paris Saint-Germain’s unbeaten run in Ligue 1 came to an end after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Nice on Friday night. The French champions, who had already secured the league title three weeks earlier, suffered their first home loss in nearly a year, just days before their crucial Champions League semifinal clash against Arsenal.
Despite PSG dominating the early proceedings at Parc des Princes, they failed to convert chances, thanks to a heroic performance from Nice’s goalkeeper, Marcin Bulka. Coach Luis Enrique, mindful of the upcoming European challenge, had rotated his squad, resting several key players.
Nice struck first in the 32nd minute when Badredine Bouanani threaded a perfect pass to Morgan Sanson, who calmly slotted the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma. PSG responded swiftly; within five minutes, Fabián Ruiz equalized with a clever finish assisted by Ousmane Dembélé.
However, the second half saw Nice regain the advantage almost immediately. Sanson once again proved decisive, scoring a spectacular scissor-kick volley that stunned the home crowd. Even after the introduction of substitutes like Bradley Barcola, Gonçalo Ramos, Warren Zaire-Emery, and Lucas Beraldo, PSG struggled to find rhythm.
Nice sealed the victory in the 70th minute when Youssouf Ndayishimiye, left completely unmarked, headed home a third goal, leaving PSG's defense in disarray.
With this emphatic win, Nice climbed to fourth in the standings, drawing level on points with Monaco and sitting just one point behind second-placed Marseille. Meanwhile, PSG will now shift their full focus to their Champions League aspirations.
