The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on Monday with high tension in the Rajya Sabha, as the opposition demanded a detailed statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged serious lapses in national security and intelligence, while BJP President JP Nadda defended the government’s response and claimed that Operation Sindoor was unprecedented in scale and execution.
Kharge Demands Clarity, Calls Out Intelligence FailureRaising the issue in the Rajya Sabha, Kharge said,
“I have given a notice under the rules to discuss the situation arising after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The April 22 Pahalgam attack has not seen justice—those terrorists have neither been caught nor neutralized.”
He pointed out that even the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has acknowledged lapses. Emphasizing the opposition’s earlier support to the government in matters of national security, Kharge asked,
“If we stand united during crises, then why can't the government be transparent about what went wrong?”
He also cited recent statements by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and senior army officials indicating operational and intelligence shortcomings. Additionally, Kharge brought up US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire in South Asia, terming it a direct insult to India’s sovereignty.
Nadda Responds: "Unprecedented Operation under PM Modi’s Leadership"“Trump has said it 24 times that he ensured a ceasefire in our region. What is the government’s official stand on this?” he demanded.
Replying to Kharge, BJP President JP Nadda first extended birthday greetings to the Congress leader, then addressed the demands raised.
“A notice was given under Rule 267, but Kharge has raised broader issues. We are ready to discuss everything—Operation Sindoor, security, intelligence. All facts will be placed before the House and the nation.”
Defending the government, Nadda claimed:
“Under the leadership of PM Modi, Operation Sindoor is the kind of military operation that has never happened before in the history of independent India.”
When Congress MP Renuka Chaudhary interrupted his remarks, Nadda retorted,
The Political Temperature Rises“Words have their power; there is no need to shout.”
The issue has now escalated into a larger debate on India’s internal security, transparency in military actions, and foreign policy posture. The opposition has demanded a two-day debate on the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, intelligence lapses, and India’s response to Trump’s claims.
With tensions running high in Parliament, this monsoon session is expected to be stormy, as both the government and the opposition gear up for a full-fledged showdown on matters of national interest and accountability.
