Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old Indian prodigy who recently grabbed headlines with his explosive batting in the Youth ODI series against England, faced an unexpected setback in his first Youth Test match. Suryavanshi was dismissed cheaply in the first innings of the opening Youth Test between England Under-19 and India Under-19 in Beckenham, a performance that fell short of the high expectations set by his prior displays.
A First for Suryavanshi on This TourOn the first day of the match at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham, Vaibhav Suryavanshi attempted to give India Under-19 an aggressive start to their innings. However, his stay at the crease was short-lived, as he was out after scoring just 14 runs. This was a particularly disappointing moment for the young batsman, as it marked the first time on this tour that he failed to cross the 30-run mark in an innings.
This is Suryavanshi's third Youth Test appearance. He previously played two matches against Australia, where he scored a total of 108 runs, including a century. That century also holds the record for the fastest by an Indian in Youth Test history.
ODI Success Preceded Test StrugglesVaibhav Suryavanshi had previously made a significant impact in the recently concluded Youth ODI series against England, dazzling with his aggressive batting. During that series, he set a record for the youngest Youth ODI century, reaching the milestone in just 52 balls. He also played a crucial role in India's 3-2 series victory, notably scoring 86 runs off only 31 balls in one match.
While his start in the Test format hasn't been as spectacular, Suryavanshi will undoubtedly be looking to make a strong comeback in the upcoming innings.
