There is good news for Delhiites on the occasion of the festive season. To boost the automotive sector, the Delhi government has announced an incentive scheme to provide up to 20 percent discount on new vehicle registration under the Scrappage Certificate of Deposit scheme.

Which vehicles will come under the exemption?:  According to the notification issued by the Delhi government, non-transport and commercial vehicles running on petrol, diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will get exemption in motor vehicle tax.

Discount for non-transport vehicles:  For non-transport vehicles, the scheme offers up to 20 percent discount on petrol, CNG and diesel fuel based vehicles. Not only this, private vehicles running on petrol, CNG and LPG will get a 20 percent discount on motor vehicle tax registration. While diesel vehicles will be given a discount of 15 percent.

Tax exemption for commercial vehicles:  Apart from this, commercial vehicles running on petrol, CNG and LPG will now get a 15 percent discount on motor vehicle tax. At the same time, commercial vehicles running on diesel will get a 10 percent tax exemption. This exemption will be valid for 3 years from the date of issue of the scrappage certificate.

UP government's offer too:  With the aim of reducing the rising pollution in Delhi-NCR and removing old vehicles from the roads, Delhi and its surrounding states have proposed tax exemption on scrapping old vehicles. The Uttar Pradesh government has also issued a similar order. According to this, owners of vehicles registered before 2003 will get up to 75 percent discount on scrapping their vehicles. While vehicles registered before 2008 will get a discount of 50 percent.
