CNN was paused to issue a devastating announcement as a mass shooting at State University killed two and injured six. The son of a police officer opened fire with his mum's former service weapon on the campus, before being shot by police and taken to hospital. The two deceased were not university students, authorities have confirmed, but their identities have not yet been released.
CNN was on the scene in Tallahassee, Florida, where one college student was giving his own opinion on the heartbreaking incident. The student slammed US president and governor Ron DeSantis in a crushing blow to Trump's presidency, which has already seen stock markets crumble. The US saw its highest ever number of mass killings on record in 2019, during Trump's first stint in the White House.

Live from campus, the student said: "I'm gonna call on Governor Ron DeSantis [and] the president Donald Trump. This stuff keeps going on. We're praying every day. Prayer is good. Spirituality is good. But prayers don't do much. It's good for the soul, but is this still happening? I think it is. So we need to make some gun reforms."
A breaking news strap was shown across the screen at the time, which read: "Breaking news - at least 6 hurt, suspect in custody after mass shooting at FSU."
Sheriff McNeil, who attended the scene, explained that the 20-year-old suspect was a "longstanding member" of the sheriff office's youth advisory council. He said: "It is not a surprise that he had access to weapons."
But Trump said in light of the shooting that he is a "big advocate" of Second Amendment rights, which protect the right to bear arms in the US. He said: "I have been since the beginning. I have protected it. These things are terrible. We will have more to say about it later."
He called the shooting "a shame, a horrible thing", while DeSantis said: "Our prayers are with our FSU family and state law enforcement is actively responding."
The last FSU shooting took place in 2015, when a graduate shot and injured three people before being killed by police.
