This Morning's former power couple, Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, shocked the showbiz scene when they announced they were breaking up last year after 14 years of marriage. However, sources have claimed Eamonn, 65, wants to reunite with Ruth, also 65, this Christmas for one heartbreaking reason.
An insider told Closer: "Eamonn has shocked pals after telling them he wants to be a family again with Ruth at Christmas. He knows he wasn't always the dream husband, but he would still like to be friends and wants to rebuild that trust." They added: "He wants to change the dynamics. Currently, they are and remain amicable, but he wants more - he wants Ruth back in his life. After all, they are family."
It comes amid reports that Eamonn and his girlfriend Katie Alexander, 42, have "hit a rocky patch" after getting into a relationship last year. Neither have commented on the claims.
The source added: "Eamonn's feeling sorry for himself and hankering over the good old times, but there won't be any happy times again as a family - he single-handedly ruined that."
They also alleged that Eamonn and Ruth have reached a place where they can be on common civil ground for the sake of their son, Jack, who is now 23 years old.
The couple had been together for 27 years, and their joint statement announcing their split said: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."
In the wake of the sad announcement, Ruth told Woman & Home magazine: "Relationship breakdowns are very difficult, but you deal with it and have to move on. You can let yourself crumble or you pick yourself up and get on with life. It's a choice."
She added: "Divorce is very painful. Most don't do it in the public eye, with everybody having an opinion. But that's the nature of my job."
Eamonn and Ruth's representatives have been contacted for comment by Express.co.uk.
