After being out of work for 17 months, a return to club management may loom for .

The 46-year-old last season returned to Chelsea as their interim manager following 's sacking, but he failed to impress in the short-term position and led the club to one victory in 11 matches.

Lampard has been linked with numerous positions since his second stint in the Stamford Bridge dugout though but has remained as a pundit instead, unenthused by the opportunities that have presented themselves to him.

However, Lampard's patience could pay off with an approach from a European giant.

According to , the ex-Everton boss is among the considerations at AS Roma, with Ivan Juric coming under immense pressure at the club since his appointment in September.

Juris has struggled since succeeding Daniele De Rossi at the Stadio Olimpico, prompting the higher powers at the club to assess a host of replacement options who are readily available. Paulo Sousa, Claudio Ranieri, Potter and Roberto Mancini are among their considerations.

Owners Friedkin are also putting Lampard's name in the frame after working with the ex-Derby manager at , with talks around the former midfielder gaining traction over the past few days as discussions over sacking Juric have intensified.

Lampard has spoken openly on several occasions about how he is keen to return to the touchline after an extended hiatus, especially if a club without incredibly challenging circumstances comes forward to discuss his availability.

Speaking to over the summer, he said: "Some opportunities have come my way, they didn't feel right for the time.

"So I've kind of taken that decision a bit at times. But now I feel ready so we will see what opportunities come up. I'm certainly ready to work. I love doing what I do, so we will see.

"I am ready to work. When it feels the right opportunity comes, whether it's my end or someone wants to give me that opportunity, I think I am pretty well-versed to understand what that is.

"Because I have had difficult jobs. When I went into Derby, we had FFP problems, we managed to give to a play-off final. All great experiences. At Chelsea, I went in with a transfer ban, at Everton, obviously the issues there. So I have taken on challenges."
