A former treble winner has urged to immediately target the player he believes will fire his old side to the title. Amorim , with the club still negotiating the terms of his move from Sporting.

When the 39-year-old does officially take charge, an overhaul is expected both in terms of personnel and playing style.

And now Dwight Yorke has urged the Portuguese boss to upset the apple cart by signing a striker from United's most bitter rivals.

"If I could sign anyone to come in at number nine for Manchester United, then I would try and nick off Liverpool," he told SafestCasinoSites. "He's got a presence; he's got something nasty about him and I think he's a real handful.

"Manchester United need a player who can act as that focal point and give them that presence on the pitch. They need someone with Darwin Nunez's physical attributes. He's somebody I would try to poach. If I'm looking for a number nine right now, I would take a chance with this guy."

The Trinidadian argued that Nunez would be a more favourable option than current striker because of his physicality, and argued the Uruguayan would be "ripping up the " if he was being played regularly by .

Nunez arrived at Anfield from Benfica in the summer of 2022, for an initial £62million fee. He's since scored 35 goals in 107 club appearances, but has struggled for consistency with his finishing and has been mostly deployed as a substitute under Slot this season.

Yorke, who scored 65 times for United and helped the club to three Premier League titles, an , and the , accepted some fans may 'scoff' at his idea, but instead that English football has not yet seen the best of the 25-year-old. "I'm convinced that there is a monster of a player in there that is waiting to come out," he added.

"I still think that if he can put it all together, he can become a proper star in the Premier League this season. If he does, I think he could be the difference between Liverpool having a decent season with a top-three finish and Liverpool potentially winning the title."

Yorke's comments come at a time when United are struggling for goals, with currently the club's top Premier League scorer with just two. Strikers , Joshua Zirkzee, and all have one each.

And the issue was laid bare , which ultimately proved final game in charge. The Red Devils missed a host of first-half chances, with their now ex-boss admitting afterwards a lack of clinical ability had cost them dear.
