They told you, over and over, that they would not raise your taxes. A cast iron guarantee written into their manifesto and repeated endlessly by Keir Starmer and the rest of the Cabinet.
They said it on the airwaves, in the papers, in their speeches and they said it you, on your doorsteps, and told you that you could trust them with your vote in return.
Rachel Reeves herself said 30 times this year that she would not raise taxes.
In fact she even said she wanted to bring the burden of tax down.
And yet here we are, with the Budget set to raise taxes to their highest ever level, with ordinary families footing the bill.
Without remorse and without hesitation, this government has ripped up their word to the public, and launched the biggest ever assault on our economic competitiveness.
So it's no surprise they felt the need to invent a fictitious black hole in the public finances. It was simply a tool to cover up the tax rises they planned all along.
And be in no doubt, these are all taxes that will hurt working people.
National insurance, stamp duty, energy taxes, capital gains tax and inheritance taxes - measures that see the wages of working people go down, the profits of business raided, the markets, to which the Chancellor promised stability, damaged - all a litany of attacks on the pockets of the public.
Don't simply take my word for it. The Office for Budget Responsibility say inflation will rise, interest rates will rise, business investment will go down and jobs will be lost.
This, combined with opening the door to a multibillion borrowing spree that the Chancellor previously said she wouldn't do, will punish families with mortgages across the country.
No one will forget a Chancellor that has broken her word, and no one will forgive her.
This country's confidence in Labour will be shaken forever.
