, who faces court on Friday over allegations of sexual assault, has been slammed for his starring role in a movie that was dismissed as totally "unwatchable". Brand played "God" in Army of One, a twisted humour film which saw him come to co-star Nicholas Cage in a vision and persuade him to seek religious justice.
As a result, Nicholas' character Gary Faulkner heads off to Pakistan in pursuit of Al-Qaeda terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden, echoing the antics of a real-life man by the same name. The film was always going to be controversial, as it was re-edited by Bob Weinstein - the younger brother of now convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein. It also poked fun at religion for comedy purposes, offending many devout believers in the process.
However, American film critic Nathan Rabin delivered an especially scathing review on his website, following on from the dismal score on Rotten Tomatoes of just 25%.
"I can't imagine a cut of Army of One that's halfway decent, let alone good. But it doesn't have to be this terrible or confused," he exclaimed.
Referring to the real Gary Faulkner, who was arrested in Pakistan in 2010 with a sword, a pistol, night vision goggles and a Bible, he blasted that the film had "unsuccessfully romanticised" his "intense mental illness".
"In Pakistan Gary mostly smokes a lot of hash and has delusions. He does not capture Osama Bin Laden. He doesn't accomplish anything. His time in Pakistan is as pointless as the film itself," he continued.

He was less than favourable about Brand as well, who portrays a mentally ill, hallucinating man's perception of what God might be like.
"He's every bit as glib and obnoxious as you'd expect although I suspect the Brand of today would see Gary as an important voice outside the mainstream media echo chamber and invite him onto his podcast so he can share his very important, valid views with other free thinkers such as himself," he claimed.
The film flopped on IMDB too, receiving an average rating of less than five out of 10 and a string of scathing reviews, with one viewer hilariously revealing that he'd fallen aasleep watching it.
Meanwhile, Brand is expected to make his first appearance in court today on Metropolitan Police charges of rape and sexual assault, which he has categorically denied.
