Superstar vet, Noel Fitzpatrick, was visibly moved to tears during an emotional segment on The One Show when he was given a heartwarming update about a former feline patient.

While appearing on the BBC chat show alongside guest Julianne Moore to discuss his new endeavours and recount tales of groundbreaking operations from the past, TV's favourite veterinarian was reminded by presenter Vick Hope of a daring procedure he conducted on a kitty named Oscar.

Hope remarked: "You are known as the Supervet for a very good reason. You were the first person to perform a bionic double leg implant on a cat called Oscar, I mean this was a risky thing to do at the time!"

In response, Noel reflected on the strides made in veterinary science since then, noting: "Well it's interesting how much things have progressed over time, like that was more than 15 years ago now."

He recounted Oscar's tragic accident involving a combine harvester which resulted in both his hind legs being tragically severed, reports .

As the conversation unfolded, presenter Roman Kemp interjected with a surprise update. Presenting a video message from Oscar's devoted owner, Kemp announced: "Your work is incredible as well and you don't know we've done this but Oscar's still going strong, 15 years on."

He added: "And his owner Mike wanted to send you a message."

Completely taken aback, Noel could only exclaim: "Oh my goodness!" upon hearing the unexpected yet joyous news.

In an endearing video, Mike was captured cradling a sprightly Oscar, as he declared: "Hi Noel, this is Oscar here in sunny Jersey. We just wanted to give you an update on how he's doing."

He continued enthusiastically, "It's been over 15 years since he had his accident. He's 17 now and he would not be here without what you did for him. So we want to say a big thank you."

Upon returning the shot to Noel in the studio, the visibly moved television personality struggled to maintain composure, wiping away tears before admitting: "My goodness, you're so naughty!"

Noel then remarked with overwhelming gratitude: "That's incredible how you bring more than a decade of life and love and you can bring light into the world. It's an honour!"

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
