Narowal: Pakistan has allocated a budget of Pakistani PKR (Pakistani Rupees) 10 million to reconstruct a Hindu temple in the Punjab province, reported PTI. Notably, it is the first phase of restoration almost 64 years after the Baoli Sahib temple was rendered dysfunctional. The temple was located in Zafarwal town of Narowal city of Pakistan's Punjab province.The temple was rendered dysfunctional in 1960, Pakistani daily Dawn News reported. The district has no Hindu temple at present. Hindus of Narowal district are performing their rituals in nearby Lahore and Sialkot districts.The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), the federal body overseeing minority worship places in Pakistan, has started the construction of the Baoli Sahib temple. In Narowal, there are over 1,450 members of the Hindu community. After the formation of Pakistan, there were reportedly 45 Hindu temples. For the past 20 years, the Pak Dharamsthan Committee has advocated for the restoration of Baoli Sahib temple, Arya said as reported by PTI.The ETPB is overseeing the construction at the four kanals of land where the boundary wall is the priority. Once completed, the temple will be handed over to the Pak Dharamsthan Committee. As per reports, Shoaib Siddal, chairman of the One Man Commission of the Supreme Court, and Manzoor Masih, member of the National Commission of Human Rights, played an important role in the restoration of the temple.Hindus form the biggest minority community in Pakistan. As per the official estimate, around 75 lakh Hindus live in Pakistan and most of them are in Panjab's Sindh province.(With inputs from PTI)
