Trump's Steelers No. 47 Jersey Sparks Backlash: 'That Number Belongs To Harris Supporter Mel Blount'

Send Push

With just a couple of weeks left for the November elections, Donald Trump made the most of the past weekend by appearing at the NFL game between the Pittsburg Steelers and the New York Jets. The 78-year-old later posted an AI-generated photo of himself in a Steelers jersey, with the number 47. Though Trump used it to project that he would be the 47th POTUS, if elected, it turned out that the No. 47 belonged to ex-Steelers player Mel Blount, who had endorsed Harris along with 14 other former NFL players. Opponents of the former president did not miss the opportunity to take a dig at him for the choice of number and how it misfired. It sparked a wide array of reactions on social media."Trump posts AI-generated photo of himself as Steelers player, wearing No 47, ahead of appearance at game," one user wrote. "Prior to the game, Steelers Hall of Famers Jerome Bettis and "Mean" Joe Greene, as well as the family of Franco Harris, publicly endorsed, VP Kamala Harris."

"DESPERATION MAKES YOU DO THINGS. Trump posts AI-generated photo of himself as Steelers player, wearing No 47, ahead of an appearance at game," said another.

"The fake news doesn't want you to know this, but Donald Trump's #47 is the only Steelers number that is retired and can't be worn again," said one.

"Donald Trump listed as Active for the Steelers tonight at Tightend 🤯," noted one.

"Trump just signed to 1 game contract with the Steelers. Big game tonight!!!!" added another.

Trump arrived during the first quarter to a small crowd of supporters with a 'Trump Nation' banner. He waved from a suite as fans chanted 'USA.' In the third quarter, a female fan in Steelers colors disrupted the game by running onto the field with a pro-Trump sign before being escorted off by authorities.
