AI has been a great friend to many different industries, like writing content, generating images as well as compiling information. People have readily accepted this change and have incorporated this in their lives in many ways! Not only does it make us excited for the future, but it is like having your very own ‘Jarvis’ like Ironman did. But currently there are still many limitations to AI, as sometimes it may give wonky images, shaky videos and wrong information. But the trust in AI for parents seems to have taken a new turn where parents are more trusting of ChatGPT for medical advice than they are of medical professionals. Research done by the University of Kansas Life Span Institute found that parents more often seek advice from AI than much more credible sources. The test was conducted with 116 parents who were aged from 18 to 65, they were given health related topics like infant sleep training and nutrition and most of them reviewed content that was generated by AI. Some reasons why experts believe they could’ve trusted AI more is because it allows them to have that first layer of guidance, basically to ease their worries and let them have a clearer view of what is going on.
How to Recognize AI TextsIt is always best to go to a doctor for these issues because sometimes even the articles you may be reading about your suspected issue may be AI generated. You must look for credible sources, possibly reviewed by a medical professional when you are reading these articles. Some ways you can identify it is if the text is too vague or giving you generic advice. It can also seem like it is trying to cover all bases while it is not giving you any recommendation. Here are some reasons why AI for health a good idea is not. It lacks personalization and accuracyAI-generated health information may not be tailored to specific individual circumstances, leading to inaccurate or misleading advice. While you may be telling it what is wrong, unlike a doctor, it won’t ask you follow up questions or ask you specific details, leading it to give you generic advice. It is missing clinical expertiseAI lacks the clinical experience and insight of healthcare professionals, potentially leading to misdiagnosis or delayed treatment. Clinical diagnosis let you breathe a sigh of relief because they are taking a close look at your child and then telling you what the reason is, not giving possibilities like AI. It risks misinterpretation and delayed careSometimes things can get lost in translation and relying solely on AI for medical advice can lead to misinterpretation of symptoms and delays in seeking appropriate care, especially for children. Doctors see the results and then rule out any care or treatment that your child may need as they cannot always tell what’s wrong with them. AI can be unreliable and unaccountableAI-generated text can often sound credible but lacks accountability for accuracy, potentially leading to harmful consequences. AI cannot see you or know you in any way other than your texts. What they do not know can cause it to give you unoriginal advice and make you more stressed about your health. Best to reach out to a professional know their expertise. You must learn the importance of human expertiseConsulting with healthcare providers is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment, as they can provide personalized care based on individual health profiles. There are many details that sometimes only a human being can detect. They can give you advice from their own experiences and help you out in many ways! You may also like
