JAISALMER: A Pakistani refugee couple were electrocuted while working in a field at Sagana village, under the jurisdiction of Sangad police station in Jaisalmer, on Friday.
Fotaram Od (35) was electrocuted when an electric pole suddenly collapsed on him, and his wife, Dadhli Devi (32), was also caught in the deadly current when she rushed to his aid. Both died instantly.
Police said the couple had sought refuge in India 17 months ago, escaping persecution and religious oppression in Pakistan.
They brought four of their five children with them, leaving behind their eldest, a 13-year-old boy, due to visa complications. Local councillor Narsingh Od and the family of the deceased demanded an investigation and compensation from the field owner, refusing to remove the bodies until their demands were met.
