Seat talks? Hemant likely to meet INDIA bloc leaders today

Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren is expected to meet former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav and Congress party’s Jharkhand affairs in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir on Friday and have primary discussions on seat-sharing of INDIA bloc parties for the assembly elections.

While Dipankar Bhattacharya, the general secretary of CPI-ML-L is set to give the meeting a miss, the party’s outgoing Bagodar MLA Vinod Kumar Singh will attend. The meeting will take place on a day when the nomination window for 43 out of 81 assembly constituencies, which will go to vote on November 13, will open. The last date for filing nomination will be October 25. None of the political parties have announced their candidates yet for the first phase.

“Leaders of alliance partners are coming to Jharkhand. It is very natural for them to meet and discuss election matters,” JMM general secretary-cum-spokesperson Vinod Kumar Pandey said. Talking to TOI from Bihar, Bhattacharya said that time has come for finalising the seats. “We are of the view that all parties must contest under INDIA fold. We have our list and hopefully we will reach an amicable agreement,” he said.

The office of chief electoral officer (CEO) Jharkhand, K Ravi Kumar, on Thursday said 1.36 crore electorate will exercise their franchise across these constituencies, which are spread across 15 districts.
