Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible franchise continues to enjoy a loyal fan base in India, and the recent box office battle between Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has proven just that. While Dead Reckoning had an impressive start when it released mid-week in 2023 , The Final Reckoning smartly capitalized on its weekend debut — edging past Dead Reckoning’s four-day total by Rs 33 lakh in Hindi language .
Dead Reckoning, which hit Indian cinemas on a Wednesday, collected Rs 46.20 crore (net) in its first four days. In comparison, The Final Reckoning, released on a Saturday, brought in Rs 44.18 crore (net) within its first four days, giving the predecessor a slight edge.
Dead Reckoning had opened at Rs 12.3 crore on Wednesday but Final scored Rs 16 crore on its first Saturday. Although the numbers dropped sharply from Monday onward — a typical trend for major releases..
However, when it comes to lifetime box office collections in India, Dead Reckoning still leads the race. The film had a much longer and steadier run, it went on to earn Rs 80.6 crore in the extended first week and it’s lifetime collection was Rs 110.3 crore. It remains to be seen if The Final Reckoning can maintain its momentum in the coming days and challenge that figure.
This box office clash highlights the enduring popularity of Tom Cruise’s action-packed franchise in India. Despite the changing release patterns — with Dead Reckoning opting for a mid-week release and The Final Reckoning leveraging a weekend debut — both films have shown that Mission: Impossible continues to be a major draw for Indian audiences.
The film starred Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, alongside Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales and Pom Klementieff.
