Tom Holland talks 'Spider-Man 4' script; How he sees challenges in featuring the film in MCU timeline

To the several Spider-Mans that have seen the big screen lately, Tom Holland, one of them, talks about the development of his fourth 'Spider-Man' movie in an interview on the 'Rich Roll Podcast'. Holland said he and Zendaya, his co-star who plays MJ, read a draft together. While they both said it is "excellent," Holland admitted that it needs work. He commended the writers, saying that they are doing an incredible job and is excited about it. He even mentioned that reading the script made him and Zendaya feel energized as they bounced around the room with excitement, believing that it would be a movie that fans would respect.

He also confessed that it was hard to find a slot for the fourth 'Spider-Man' film into the overall scheme of things in the MCU. As he puts it, every film that's produced by Marvel is merely a small piece of a much larger machine; they have to pin their exact spot where 'Spider-Man 4' would fit in with the rest of the universe. But Holland is all optimistic that the team on this film will be able to do that.

Since then, He has portrayed Peter Parker/Spider-Man in three solo films-Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home-which were all directed by Jon Watts. Holland also starred as Spider-Man in the larger MCU movies like 'Avengers: Endgame'. For the new movie, though, there is a change in direction, as *Shang-Chi* director Destin Daniel Cretton is set to replace Watts.

One of the big issues 'Spider-Man ' has to grapple with, according to Holland, is how to pick up where 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' left off in the final reel. There, in a spell cast by Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, everybody forgets who Peter Parker is, including his closest friends MJ and Ned, played by Jacob Batalon. The new movie is going to be how Peter deals with this issue.

Scroll down for Spider-Man 4 news amid the WGA strike. Over a month ago, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that the script for 'Spider-Man 4' had been in development since February 2023. However, due to the WGA strike later this year, the script development for 'Spider-Man 4' will most likely be delayed as well.

In the past, Holland stated he would only return to Spider-Man if they can do it justice. He told the press he feels very protective of Spider-Man and he won't do a fourth one unless it continues improving the franchise and continuing its quality.
