NEW DELHI: Former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn didn’t hold back in his criticism of Chennai Super Kings ' (CSK) team management following another dismal batting display in their IPL 2025 clash against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday.

Taking to X, Steyn slammed the decision to promote bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to No. 4 and 5 after the early loss of three wickets.

“CSK 3 down and they send 2 bowlers to bat. Sometimes I feel their math is not mathing,” Steyn wrote, capturing fans' frustration with CSK's muddled strategy.
Ashwin and Jadeja could manage only 13 and 1 respectively, despite power-hitters like Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis, and Dhoni himself still in the dugout. The team’s aggressive approach backfired once again, as Rajasthan struck regularly to derail CSK’s innings.
Among the top five, only youngster Ayush Mhatre showed promise, scoring a brisk 43 off 20 balls. But the collapse further highlighted CSK’s faltering batting strategy, which has plagued them throughout a disappointing season.
After CSK’s elimination from playoff contention, Dhoni admitted the focus had shifted to preparing for 2026. “Once we were out of the tournament, we wanted to find the answers for the next year,” he said at the toss, defending experimentation with combinations.
