Bryan Danielson's health status: How is the AEW Star following WrestleDream?

Send Push
The professional wrestling world is abuzz with the news that Bryan Danielson 's full-time in-ring career has officially come to an end following his loss to Jon Moxley at AEW ’s WrestleDream event. With years of high-intensity matches under his belt, Danielson is now set to undergo an MRI, which will help determine his future in the squared circle.

According to a report by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter , Danielson’s next steps largely depend on the condition of his neck, which has been a source of concern for the former AEW World Champion for some time. Meltzer detailed the situation, saying, "As far as what happens with Danielson involves the state of his neck. He is going to have an MRI done to see the damage. He had an MRI done not too long ago and it showed damage all the way down his neck." The results of the upcoming scan will indicate whether the damage is manageable or if it has worsened to a critical level.

The hope is that surgery can be avoided, and Danielson can pursue healing through stem cell treatment therapy. However, as Meltzer pointed out, the severity of the damage could force a different outcome: “The hope is that he won’t need surgery and can heal up strong enough with stem cell treatment therapy. But if not, he’ll have to undergo surgery. If or when he can return to the ring depends on how well all of this goes.”

Is Bryan Danielson’s career in jeopardy after full-time exit?

Danielson’s departure from full-time competition marks a significant chapter in his career, but it does not necessarily signal the end of his wrestling journey. As both AEW and Danielson clarified leading up to WrestleDream, his full-time career was always slated to conclude with the match against Moxley, but he may still step into the ring on a part-time basis. Meltzer confirmed this, saying, “They and he had always said regarding this match that it would be the end of his full-time career, and not the end of his career.”

Danielson himself seemed to be grappling with the emotional weight of the situation before his match at WrestleDream. Speaking to Shawn Garrett of *KIRO 7 News* in Seattle, he reflected on the possibility that his match against Moxley could be his last. “Will I ever wrestle again once I lose the title? I don’t know,” Danielson said. “My heart says yes because I love wrestling, but I’ve put my body through a lot to get to the success that I’ve had. At some point — what is it? — You have to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em.”

A Sudden Change in AEW’s Booking Plans

Initially, AEW had a different storyline trajectory for WrestleDream, with Darby Allin originally slated to be the one to end Danielson’s reign as AEW World Champion. However, as Meltzer revealed, the plan shifted to Jon Moxley, with the intention of elevating his character and the Blackpool Combat Club. “The direction changed with the idea of putting as much heat as possible on Moxley and the [Blackpool Combat Club] in an attempt to jump-start interest in the promotion,” Meltzer explained.

This change not only gave Moxley a more prominent role but also turned his victory over Danielson into a brutal exclamation point on the former champion’s full-time career. At WrestleDream, Moxley didn’t just defeat Danielson; he did so in a violent fashion that left no room for ambiguity about his intentions to reshape AEW in his image.

Moxley Declares a New Paradigm in AEW

The fallout from WrestleDream extended beyond the match itself, as Jon Moxley took to AEW Dynamite to deliver a mission statement that further clarified his vision for the future of AEW. Moxley, never one to mince words, expressed his disdain for the current state of AEW, promising radical changes within the promotion. “What is the new paradigm? It’s very simple — you work for me now,” Moxley declared, sending a clear message to the AEW roster that a new era under his leadership was about to begin.

Moxley’s determination to "burn down the forest to plant a new one" signals that the Blackpool Combat Club's dominance is just beginning, and fans should expect more unpredictable and potentially violent turns in AEW’s storytelling.

What’s Next for Bryan Danielson?

As fans around the world wait for updates on Danielson’s condition, his future remains uncertain. The upcoming MRI will play a pivotal role in determining whether he requires neck surgery or can continue with less invasive treatments. Should he opt for surgery, his return to the ring could be delayed indefinitely. But if stem cell treatment proves successful, fans could see Danielson make a part-time comeback in AEW, although his full-time days are officially over.

For now, the wrestling community is left to hope that Danielson's legendary career will continue in some capacity, while Jon Moxley forges ahead with his bold new vision for AEW.
