In a nail-biting Game 3 matchup, the Vegas Golden Knights pulled off a stunning 4-3 victory against the Edmonton Oilers, capped by a last-second goal from Reilly Smith. Yet, despite the much-needed win that narrows their series deficit to 2-1, concern looms large over the health of team captain Mark Stone, who exited early with an upper-body injury and did not return.
Mark Stone leaves early with injury after awkward collision
Mark Stone’s night came to a premature end late in the first period after a sequence in which he lost balance and collided with Oilers veteran Corey Perry. Although he managed to play three more shifts, he was noticeably absent as the second period began. The team later confirmed it was an upper-body injury.
Coach Bruce Cassidy addressed the media after the game, describing Stone’s status as uncertain but not ruled out for Game 4. “We’ll see (Sunday) how he’s feeling,” Cassidy said. “He obviously didn’t return, we saw that, but it doesn’t preclude him from playing the next game. We’ll know more (Sunday).”
Stone entered Game 3 as Vegas’ playoff leader in goals (4) and second in total points (9), underscoring his importance to the team’s postseason hopes.
Reilly Smith’s buzzer-beater saves the day for Vegas
With just 0.4 seconds left on the clock, Smith delivered the decisive blow, capitalizing on a late surge by Vegas. His game-winner, assisted by Brayden McNabb—who returned unexpectedly after missing the morning skate—sealed a dramatic comeback and breathed life into the Golden Knights’ playoff push.
McNabb’s presence, along with forward Pavel Dorofeyev’s return to the lineup after injury, bolstered a Vegas team already battling depth issues.
On the other side, Edmonton went with Stuart Skinner in net, as Calvin Pickard remains day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. Pickard had previously been on a hot streak, winning six straight games since replacing Skinner in the first round.
