Wilyer Abreu delivers big with two home runs In the bottom of the sixth inning, with two outs on the board and the Red Sox being down 3-2, most people were thinking that manager Alex Cora would change his mind. The Rangers had Texas left-hander Hoby Milner pitching, and Boston had numerous right-handed hitters on the bench. However, Alex Cora was not one of them, sticking with Wilyer Abreu.

Wilyer Abreu showed his presence right from the start of the game with a stunning 422-foot home run in his first at-bat. The electrifying start set the tone for the night. He continued to impress throughout the game with a timely double that tied the game up, showing his power as well as accuracy at the plate.

In the eighth inning, Wilyer Abreu finished off the victory for Boston with a bang, hitting another home run, this one a solo shot that restored the momentum to the team. His dominant outing not only sealed the victory but also provided a huge boost to the team morale of the Red Sox's squad, reminding all of his dynamite impact in the batting order.

Alex Cora's faith was supported by Wilyer Abreu's scorching bat Following the game, Alex Cora described why he didn't remove Wilyer Abreu. “It’s the sixth inning and Willy’s one of our best hitters and he’s earning the right to face tough lefties,” Cora said.

Alex Cora wasn't speculating. The numbers bear it out. Wilyer Abreu entered Thursday tied for the team lead in home runs (nine) and second in batting average (.294), on-base percentage (.401), slugging (.580), and RBIs (25). Only Alex Bregman had higher numbers in those categories.

Wilyer Abreu will attempt to continue his sizzling stretch of play when Boston plays the series finale on Thursday.
