The robotic dog, formally named Champak , has since become an icon of nostalgia among fans of the show, particularly those who love the character Champaklal Gada, who is played by actor Amit Bhatt. Champaklal Gada is the patriarch of Jethalal, one of the protagonists of the hit comedy series.

The IPL organizers chose the name Champak for its robotic dog after conducting an online fan poll. This made fans feel included in the decision to name the robot, and Champak was the winner with the people. The name was officially revealed on social media prior to the thrilling IPL match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday. The reaction to this revelation was overwhelming, with fans all over the internet responding positively to the name. Fans of many, especially Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, felt that the name was a considerate gesture towards the beloved character of Champaklal Gada.

In a clip posted by IPL, ex-New Zealand cricketer and commentator Danny Morrison introduced the robotic dog to viewers, saying it was his new co-commentator. Morrison described, "It can walk, run, greet, but most importantly, it has the vision of a pet," underlining its interactive and cute nature.

Since its appearance, Champak has already demonstrated that he is more than a mere novelty gimmick. The robotic canine has performed numerous functions throughout the tournament, such as serving as the coin-bearer for the Mumbai Indians vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad game.
