ChatGPT maker OpenAI ’s CEO, Sam Altman , has reached out to Elon Musk with a friendly message. Altman extended the olive branch after reminding the Tesla CEO that even he had earlier been mistaken about the US President Donald Trump . All this started when the world’s richest man reacted to a resurfaced post from 2016 about Altman on the social media platform X (earlier Twitter). In the original post from almost a decade ago, Paul Graham , the co-founder of venture capital company Y Combinator , which invests in tech startups, wrote, “Few have done more than Sam Altman to defeat Trump.” Replying to this at that time, Altman said, “Thank you, Paul.” Musk recently took to the comment section of the post from 2016 and responded to it with a “Thinking Face” emoji.
How OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded to Elon Musk’s emoji reaction
Reacting to the emoji response, Altman took to the comment section of Musk’s reply to remind him that even he was mistaken about Trump. Altman shared an article from 2022 by The Guardian titled “Elon Musk hits back at Trump and says ex-president should ‘hang up his hat’,”. Captioning the post about the article, Altman wrote: “We were both wrong, or at least I certainly was 🤷♂️ but that was from 2016 and this was from 2022.”
Later on, on the same comment thread, Altman extended the olive branch towards Musk, saying that their fighting can hamper the development of Artificial General Intelligence ( AGI ). The comment also included an emoji combination of a pleading face and two fingers pointed towards each other. This combination is often called the “simp pose,” and in this case, expresses a gentle request from the OpenAI CEO.
Altman wrote: “Anyway, see you next week, let’s be friends

Apart from this, Musk even commented with the same “Thinking Face” emoji on another Altman’s post on Twitter from 2016.
In this older post, Altman wrote: “I am voting against Trump because I believe the principles he stands for represent an unacceptable threat to America.”
This comes after Musk filed lawsuits over Altman’s proposed restructuring of OpenAI from a non-profit to a for-profit company. The two have traded heated posts on social media throughout the dispute.
At one point, the tech billionaire even offered to purchase the ChatGPT maker for $97.4 billion. In response, Altman proposed to buy X for 9 billion.
