NEW DELHI: Congress is pushing for a third seat to contest in the bypolls in Uttar Pradesh , after having been given two by ally Samajwadi Party . Sources said a deal could be announced on Saturday.
SP snubbed the demand from Congress for five of the ten seats that are scheduled to go for voting, even though Milkipur is not part of the current batch of bypolls. The 50:50 deal was not acceptable to the SP, which also found its hand strengthened after Congress' failure to win Haryana.
While Congress is likely to get Ghaziabad and Khair (Aligarh), sources said the party is pushing for Kundarki in Moradabad to be given too. Congress is said to be still keen on Phulpur even though SP has announced its candidate on the seat. "It could be 2 or 3 seats. But whatever, an announcement may come tomorrow," a source said.
