NEW DELHI: An Army dog named Phanton died on Monday in an ongoing operation in Jammu and Kashmir 's Aknoor after terrorists attacked a military vehicle in the morning.
A search operation was launched near Asan of Sunderbani sector after an Army convoy was attacked leading to gunfight and search operation.
"As our troops were closing in on the trapped terrorists, Phantom drew enemy fire, sustaining fatal injuries. His courage, loyalty, and dedication will never be forgotten," White Knight Corps posted on X.
Meanwhile, one terrorist has been nuetralised in the ongoing operation. The Army has also recovered war-like stores during the operation.
Two other terrorists are still believed to be hiding in the area.
The encounter began at around 7.25 am in the vicinity of the Shivassan temple, situated in the Jogwan region of Battal. No additional fatalities have been reported so far.
BMP-2 infantry combat vehicles of the Indian Army have also been deployed to the encounter site.
