BENGALURU: All ST residential schools and Raichur University in Karnataka will be renamed after Maharishi Valmiki , CM Siddaramaiah announced on Thursday.

After garlanding the statue of the revered author of Ramayana during Valmiki Jayanti celebrations at Legislators' House in Vidhana Soudha, Sidda said, "It is my wish that the name and life of Valmiki, who reached the pinnacle of achievement through perseverance, be immortalised. The concept of Ram Rajya in Ramayana represents a society where fairness and equal opportunities prevail."

He touched on historical contributions of marginalised communities to Indian literature and philosophy. The CM pointed out that renowned figures such as Kalidasa, author of Shakuntala, came from Kuruba community, while Ved Vyasa, author of Mahabharata, belonged to Besta community.

He also accused BJP of failing to implement SC Sub-Plan and Tribal Sub-Plan policies, despite being in power at Centre and several states. "Our govt was the first to reserve budget funds proportionate to SC/ST population, he said.
