KANPUR/LUCKNOW: Three men—a groom, his father, and brother—died after their car rammed into a stationary trailer truck near Kakori toll plaza on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway early on Sunday.
Hailing from Gaya in Bihar, the three men were returning from Ghaziabad after purchasing items for the groom’s “Tilak” ceremony on November 18, ahead of the wedding on February 8. Saurabh, 30, his father Sanjay Kumar, 55, a Ghaziabad-based businessman, and brother Gaurav, 33, died at the scene, police said.
Police said the vehicle was going at 100-120km/h and, coupled with this, a light fog may have also contributed to the crash. “They were going home after buying items for the Tilak ceremony from Ghaziabad. We found Rs 8 lakh in cash, jewellery worth Rs 5-6 lakh, wedding clothes, and gift packs in the SUV,” police said. A police team had to cut open the doors of the SUV to extricate the passengers.
