Passenger strips at Florida Airport amid heated argument at Spirit Airlines Gate

A woman at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport shocked onlookers by stripping down to her underwear in the middle of an argument, joining a growing trend of bizarre undressing incidents at airports.

As per the New York Post, viral videos circulating on social media show the topless woman walking around Spirit Airlines’ Gate G12, wearing only white underwear, black shoes, and large hoop earrings. A man, believed to be her travel companion, was seen trying to return the clothes she had removed.

In another clip, a police officer handed the woman a black T-shirt, which she eventually put on. Travelers at the gate largely avoided looking at her, while others in the background recorded the incident.

Social media users were quick to link the incident to Spirit Airlines’ reputation for attracting disruptive passengers. According to a recent Axios-Harris Poll, Spirit ranked 98th out of 100 major companies in public perception.

This incident of airport nudity is not as rare as one might think.

According to View from the Wing, a naked, intoxicated man was filmed wandering through another terminal at Fort Lauderdale airport, earlier this year. In Miami, an almost-naked woman was tased after storming a TSA checkpoint. There have also been cases in Detroit, Atlanta, and even Jamaica, where a man protested an overbooked flight by walking around naked for an hour.

While the First Amendment protects many forms of expression, courts have ruled that public undressing at TSA checkpoints is not legally protected. Despite this, incidents of passengers stripping in airports continue to make headlines.
