Puttur: Two men have been taken into custody by Puttur Town Police for allegedly stopping two minors at the scenic Beeramale Hill, recording their photos and videos, and sharing them on social media.
The accused have been identified as Purushottama (43), a resident of Kudmaru in Kadaba taluk, and Ramachandra (38), a resident of Aryapu in Puttur taluk.
According to the complaint filed by the father of the minor boy, his son was sitting with a girl known to him at Beeramale Hill when the accused stopped them, verbally abused them using obscene language, and threatened to upload videos of them on social media. The complaint further states that the boy was insulted on religious grounds, and the accused called in members of the public to shame him, recorded the incident, and circulated the video via WhatsApp and Instagram, falsely claiming he belonged to another religion.
The police have booked the duo under charges of promoting enmity between communities and disrupting communal harmony. They were taken into custody for attempting to provoke religious hatred through their actions.
