Motorola has begun rolling out the long-anticipated Android 15 update to its Razr+ (2024) foldable smartphone, addressing long-standing criticism over its sluggish software support. The update—now live for U.S. and select international users—arrives just ahead of the 2025 Razr series pre-orders, weighing in at over 2GB.
This marks a significant milestone for Razr users, given that the Android 14 rollout for the 2023 model was delayed until July last year. While Motorola has shared the full changelog for the Razr (2024), it’s not yet clear whether all users are seeing the update simultaneously.
Major Features Introduced with Android 15 on Razr+ (2024)1. Advanced Bluetooth Quick Settings
Motorola has introduced a revamped Bluetooth interface in the quick settings panel. Now users can:
-
Pair new devices
-
Switch between connected devices
-
View remaining battery life
-
Disconnect or forget devices
-
Adjust audio and contact access settings
2. Satellite Messaging Support
Users can now send SMS via satellite when out of mobile network coverage. A lockscreen and Messages app notification will confirm satellite connectivity. Not all carriers currently support this feature.
3. Instant Hotspot with One-Tap Setup
Devices under the same Google account can now connect to a phone’s hotspot without entering a password, streamlining device syncing and connectivity.
4. Hearing Device Controls in Quick Settings
A new tile in the quick settings menu allows users to:
-
Monitor battery levels
-
Adjust hearing device settings
-
Switch between sound profiles for environments like restaurants or outdoors
5. Improved Vision and Braille Support
Font scaling now ensures text remains readable without over-enlargement. Android 15 also supports Braille Display HID, enabling compatibility with modern refreshable Braille displays via USB or Bluetooth.
6. Find Powered-Off Devices
Using improved tracking, Android 15 allows users to locate:
-
Phones that are powered off
-
Accessories like headphones and tracker tags, even when disconnected
7. Smarter Authentication
After five failed login attempts, the device will auto-lock to prevent theft. For apps using Android 15, authentication can now be completed using facial recognition, fingerprint, or screen lock. Passkey prompts are now better integrated with autofill suggestions.
-
Larger thumbnails in photo picker for better media browsing
-
New Emoji Kitchen stickers, including themes like disco balls and headphones
-
Gen-AI emojis, enabling personalized emoji creation via Gboard
Although Motorola has a reputation for delayed Android updates, the Android 15 rollout for Razr+ (2024) shows signs of improvement. With new security features, accessibility tools, and futuristic messaging options, this update brings the device up to speed with modern Android standards.
Users can check for the update in Settings > System > Software Update to ensure they’re running the latest firmware.
