STPI functioning marred by power supply delay in Jeypore

Koraput: Even after three months of its inauguration, the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) facility at Jeypore remains non-operational due to delay in power supply to the facility. This has raised concerns among professionals and residents eager for the region's technological potential to be realised.

"The STPI's objective is to serve as a bridge between the software industry and govt policies and to provide essential infrastructure and communication support. Unfortunately, it remains non-operational even after its inauguration," said Devendra Adhikari, a software professional based in Jeypore.

Adhikari emphasised the potential of the park to act as a catalyst for regional development. Once operational, the park can provide space for start-up software firms, boost employment opportunities, and support software development and exports from the region, he said.

The STPI project started in 2022 following a 90-year lease agreement executed in 2020 between STPI and Koraput district administration for 2.8 acres of land. The facility was formally inaugurated by Union IT minister Ashwin Vaishnaw in a virtual ceremony on Jan 29, 2025. "There was a delay in providing power connection to the software park at Jeypore but now the transformer has been installed and soon connection will be given. The park will be commissioned after that," said Surya Kumar Pattanayak, jurisdictional director of STPI, Bhubaneswar.

Pattanayak said the park will offer fully furnished spaces to companies deeveloping software on rent.
